Migraines, Facial Pain, TMD

Dr. Anderson is proud to be one of very few doctors that specialize in the treatment of orofacial pain and temporomandibular joint disfunction, or TMD.  This is also commonly referred to as TMJ.  Dr. Anderson has completed hundreds of hours of post-doctorate training at the most advanced training institute in the world to learn to successfully treat the debilitating symptoms of TMD, including migraines and other orofacial pain.  Less than 1% of all dentists attain the distinction and level of specialized training that Dr. Anderson has achieved.  If you are suffering from headaches, migraines, TMJ pain, or other facial pain, we invite you to call our office.  Many of the patients we have successfully treated had lost hope for a life without chronic pain.  We love to be able to restore that hope of pain free living and all without surgery.  Dr. Anderson's colleague has produced a wonderful video which explains the basics of this treatment.

Here are the experiences of just a few of our patients we have treated for TMD pain.  Their results are typical.

For 8 years I suffered from a locking and popping jaw, vertigo, pain in my neck and shoulders, clogged ears, and migraines/headaches. I visited several dentists, ENT's, oral surgeons, and massage therapists with zero relief. In a last ditch effort I made one more online search for help, and happened upon Dr. Anderson's website. Meeting Dr. Anderson has been an answer to prayer! From day one he, and his assistant Amy, have been informative, compassionate, and eager to help me find relief. There is a great deal of technology involved, which I can't begin to explain, but ultimately through the process an orthotic was created for me to wear 24/7 for about 12 weeks. Within minutes of wearing the orthotic my neck and shoulder pain disappeared and my symptoms continued to diminish over the next 24 hours. In addition, I was finally able to sleep through the night, I have lost weight, and I just have more energy. I have a way to go in the healing process, but Dr. Anderson and Amy continue to go out of their way to help me. If you are suffering from jaw pain, I highly recommend visiting Dr. Andersons office.

For years I have suffered from ringing and pressure in my ears and persistent dizziness. Then teeth grinding and headaches started. My primary care physician dismissed my symptoms as "stress related". Another said Meniere's disease. An ENT told me there was nothing wrong with my ears, it was my jaw. At my next dental cleaning I ask Dr Anderson about it and he and his staff discussed testing and options for treatment. 8 weeks into treatment and I am headache and dizziness free. The pressure and crackling in my ears is less and I am hopeful the ringing will be next to leave. Dr. Anderson is my hero. Amy is pretty awesome too!

I sought treatment with Dr. Anderson because of issues I was having with TMJ. The pain in the joint, the popping and locking the headaches finally got to be too much. Through a process he was able to build an appliance that I now wear only at night that has alleviated almost all of the joint pain, all of clicking and popping and locking and the headaches due to the TMJ are now a rare occurrence. I have continued to use Dr. Anderson's office for all of my dentistry needs and am very satisfied with their service.

We would love the opportunity to explain the hope of pain-free living. Please give us a call. 541-357-4888

What is TMJ or TMD?

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome (TMJ) is a common condition affecting a wide variety of people. TMJ is characterized by severe headaches, jaw pain of varying degrees, grinding teeth, and an intermittent ringing in the ears. The vast majority of TMJ sufferers are unaware that the root cause of these problems is something that a Dr. Anderson can effectively treat.

The symptoms of TMJ are debilitating and can greatly interfere with every day life. The comfort and general well being of the patient is at the heart of the dental practice, so pain relief is the first consideration of the Dr. Anderson. Because Dr. Anderson specializes in the treatment of TMJ disorders and facial pain, he is able to test, diagnose, and devise an immediate plan to treat the underlying causes of the TMJ disorder.

Reasons for treating TMJ

Dr. Anderson sees many patients suffering from TMJ, migrianes, and facial pain that commonly report that they have "tried everything" from surgery to night guards to physical therapy, usually with little to no long term relief.  It is so exciting for us to be able to offer hope to so many people who have lost the hope that their daily lives could be pain free.  TMJ sufferers report that their symptoms generally worsen during periods of prolonged or unexpected stress.

The most common cause of TMJ is the misalignment of the teeth and mandible, often called “bad bite.” It is possible for Dr. Anderson to realign or adjust the teeth without the need for painful or expensive surgeries. The realignment/adjustment will stop the pounding headaches, the jaw pain, and the dizziness.

The grinding teeth symptom is particularly common and usually occurs at night. The grinding will eventually erode the structure of the teeth and lead to much more severe dental problems in the future. Untreated TMJ is one of the prime underlying factors in eroded jawbones and loose teeth.

It is important for anyone experiencing the symptoms of TMJ to visit a TMJ specialist for appropriate diagnosis and prevention of further damage.

What does treating TMJ involve?

TMJ, headaches, and facial pain could be a result of several different problems. Bad bite or misalignment of the teeth and mandible is far and away the most common.  Initially, Dr. Anderson will utilize a series of extremely precise measurement technologies that very few doctors in the nation have in their office to evaluate the degree of misalignment and pathology consistent with TMD and facial pain.  Dr. Anderson believes strongly in being able to measure the improvement of alignment and correction of bite related problems with this instrumentation.  This same instrumentation aids Dr. Anderson in aligning and balancing the bite, joint, and muscles of the head and neck to allow pain free function.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of TMJ, we encourage you to contact our office today to schedule an appointment, we would LOVE to show you what can be done.
